Ponyo

Make a Splash Banner Contest
:iconrosengeist:
This is my contest submission for the Ponyo sweepstakes.

I wanted to try and create that same hand drawn feeling that so much of the art in the film contains so I turned towards traditional media to help me accomplish that goal.

Watercolor on bristol with color pencil. Photoshop was used to clean and enhance some elements of the image, such as the waves and the bubbles. I still tried to get a hand drawn feeling from such elements however.

I just want to say, I'm not sure if I'll win, but it was really fun to try my hand at Ponyo and Sosuke, I feel like it gave me a better understanding of how much artistry really are in Miyazaki's films. "Ponyo" especially is breathtaking.

"Ponyo" and all it's characters belong to Hayao Miyazaki.

It's perfect! You really got down the water-colory feel from the movie and the art books!
I think you got a pretty good shot, I do ;)

I would love to see the full version of the painting :)

Ahhhh, thank you so very much sugar! That means a lot!

Lol, that would be lovely :) In any case, it was a fun project. Even if I don't win, I learned a lot.

Actually...this is all there is too it. The actual painting is only as large in real life as the image is when you view it full size.
